Hands to weave: a research project on natural fiber weaving in global craftsmanship and across history.

More info: info@federicabiasi.com

Koya represents a formal, aesthetic but above all technical research that investigates the different intertwining and natural fibres in the world: from the most common of the Italian tradition, such as chestnut, hazelnut, but also willow and wicker, to the exotic bamboo, and then to rattan. The experimentation on rattan and its multiple processes takes shape, first and foremost, with a coffee table of generous proportions. The multi-material object rattan is combined with glass, used for the top retains roundness and lightness. The rattan part skilfully combines Asian traditions with the typical wicker work of the Veneto area. It is precisely the superimposition of two different intertwining and different techniques that represent this cultural hybridization, defining an aesthetic that is not obvious, unique. The final colouring represents a journey of experimentation, celebrating the beauty of the mixture between craftsmanship and technical experimentation.
